Culture Eats Structure for Breakfast
The #1 thing that successful school organizations have in common is that the adults work together as a team within a culture of respect. But how do we make that happen? Leadership is not a quick-fix; leadership is the art of cultivating a long-term reciprocal relationship built around teamwork and what’s best for kids. This session is presented by two principals- one elementary and one continuation high school- and will focus on how they each used the same concepts in different ways to redefine culture at their schools.  The session will focus on how to re-energize teachers to find their "why", and how to align that to who you purport yourselves to be as a school.

Are You Providing a Habitat of Happiness?
Ask staff members what makes them unhappy at work, and you will hear about low salary, apathetic students and parents, and possibly an unskilled supervisor.  Did you know that most people leave their bosses not their jobs? Managed badly, some factors make people miserable. But even if they are managed wonderfully, it doesn’t make anyone work much harder or smarter.  Staff members are motivated, instead, by interesting work, challenge and increased responsibility.  These intrinsic factors answer people’s deep- seated need for growth and achievement.  Participants will walk away from this session with very doable actions and resources that help to create meaning in their staff’s day-today work.

Impacting Instruction with Innovation
As school districts continue to move further into adopting state standards and NGSS is there an opportunity for providing teachers with more options that can impact student learning, shift pedagogy, increase engagement and adopt effective tools.  Orange Unifed School District has begun infusing computer science ideology into core curriculur classrooms through a three step process.  Participants in this presentation will be introduced how the district has introduced new tools through an evaluation process that turned into hands on experiences for teachers and classroom demonstrations for school sites.  This all culminates with teachers then being able to check out tools they can use that will influence purchasing decisions. Individuals will walk away with a system that can work for nearly any technology adoption for instruction.

Empowered by What You See: Transforming Teachers with Video-Reflective Practices
Administrators and coaches consistently look for innovative ways to enhance professional learning for teachers.  Did you know that it only takes a few minutes of video footage to capture a wealth of visual and auditory information related to classroom instruction and climate?  The question is, ‘What should you be looking at’? This session provides research based information to help cultivate reflective teachers by teaching them how to distinguishing between details and evidence.  Additionally, this session provides essential tools in coaching teachers as they learn to watch personal teaching segments with purpose, and learn to prioritize and analyze evidence in efforts to promote self-directed change to instruction and delivery style.

Preparing Our Students For A Non-Obvious Future
Today’s world is experiencing accelerated rates of change. This heightened rate and pace of change will have not only implications for the future of work, but for the focus of education. Inability of today’s educational leaders to connect these societal shifts to what it means to be truly 'career' ready will and have created skills gaps that limit our students choices and opportunities. In a time when the levels of outsourcing, automation, and enhanced achievements in artificial intelligence, as well as issues around poverty, under and unemployment, and connections between education and employment, are creating previously unforeseen shifts across all of society, we need forward thinking leaders, drenched in awareness, who can see the big opportunity arising from the chaos of a very non-obvious future. In the midst of this current and coming upheaval and disruption, we need educational leaders who can prepare our students, our educators and our organizations to survive and thrive in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world.

Data & Budget: Connecting Instructional Technology Data to Budget Planning
One of the challenging and exciting aspects of being a district administrator is collaborating with stakeholders to design a technology department budget that aligns with the technology plan and measured by outcomes.  In order to do this, multiple sources of data (Instructional Technology Audits, BrightBytes, Stakeholder Interviews, Change Management Data, etc.).must be triangulated and connected back to technology plan goals, then budget planning.  This session is designed to be nuts and bolts while being visionary and aspirational.

This will be a hands-on, interactive, and high-energy presentation. Just How Effective Are Your Social Justice Leaders?
We must examine our beliefs and affirm, that all students  can and deserve to succeed and master rigorous standards.  Many conditions of school success are, in fact, under our control. When we affirm that virtually all students can succeed and master challenging expectations, we are compelled to seek and provide what it takes to make it happen.  Participants will hear and learn the key beliefs and actions that foster inclusion, access and opportunities for all.   We all need to aim to create schools that literally serve each and every student. It is time that we commit our practice to positioning educators as a driving force toward social justice for not only marginalized students but for ALL students.

Know Better Do Better (#KBDB)
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” —Maya Angelou.

Why change? It is quite simple- we have no option not to. Our students, our schools, our lives, our futures - are in a constant state of flux. If we are not also in a continuous state of learning and growing- ourselves and our students will be left behind.

How do we change? We adopt the “Know Better, Do Better” mantra.

In this session, we will provide activities to guide your educators to “discover” their “Know Better” practices. The ones that are no longer effective or supportive for students.

Attendees will also participate in practical examples and lesson ideas to support your staffs to “Do Better” on Monday.

This session is guaranteed to be a fun, fast paced, practical, interactive session full of heart, anecdotes, hands on learning and a good time!”
